Elbow problems - olecranon bursitis

There is a fluid sack called a bursa right on the point of the elbow. It's' purpose is to protect the bony prominence of the elbow.

This bursa can be irritated by long periods of leaning on the elbow or by wearing clothing with a thick seam.

- Alteration of habits and keeping pressure off the elbow. Ice packs to reduce inflammation.
- Physiotherapy. Ultrasound from Mark Endacott
- Local steroid injection from Dr Simon Harley

Olecranon bursitis can also be caused by infection. If the skin is broken around the elbow the bursa can become infected. If the area is hot, red and spreading quickly, it is important to seek medical help an antibiotics quickly.
